The 77th BAFTA’s took place on the 18th of February and while the room was filled with the usual pageantry, there was one outfit that stood out from the rest. Award winning actor David Tennant graced the awards wearing a kilt, not just any kilt, a MacGregor and MacDuff kilt.
The host of the awards chose a very contemporary look to highlight his Scottish nationality. From the bottom up, David chose to wear a pair of very stylish ghillie brogue boots. These are a contemporary twist to formal brogues and are great for pairing with both formal and casual kilt outfits. We were thrilled to hear that this was what David wanted to wear as we have been a big fan of ghillie boots for a long time.
Being from Scotland, David has his own tartan connection that he could have chosen to wear, but instead, he asked the Kings of Kilts for help deciding. He wanted something contemporary and while we may be a bit biased, our Mist range tartans are as contemporary as it gets. We showed him our 6 exclusive tartans and let him pick his favorite. He chose our first ever exclusive tartan, Silver Mist.
Silver Mist is a great choice for a number of reasons. The design draws its inspiration from the captivating mists and breathtaking landscapes found across Scotland. So while Silver Mist isn’t connected to a traditional Scottish clan, instead it celebrates and represents Scotland’s natural beauty. With shades of grey and black, it is also one of the most versatile tartans available, seamlessly matching any jacket and accessory option.
David also wore our Black Bovine Sporran with Chrome Cantle which was a perfect match to his uniquely modern and brilliantly styled look. While we can’t take credit for his jacket, we are completely enamored by how his entire outfit came together.
From a personal standpoint, it was great to see one of our favorite tartans and kilt up on stage at the awards. Our kilts have been around the world and been on many red carpets but this may just be the pinnacle. To have such an iconic actor in one of our kilts was a real pleasure and we are overjoyed to see how David and his team managed to weave traditional highland dress into a standout modern outfit.
