WEAR YOUR JACKET OPEN

Your kilt jacket should always be kept open, this ensures that you can see the detail of your waistcoat. Our jackets are not made to be fastened, and therefore do not sit as well when they are.

WEAR YOUR KILT AROUND YOUR NAVEL

The kilt should sit around your navel (belly button), this means that there will be no gap between your waistcoat and kilt.

HAVE THE KILT OVERLAPPING THE TOP OF YOUR KNEECAP

The kilt should be overlapping the top of your knee, if not you may need to adjust the height of the kilt slightly.

HAVE THE SPORRAN SITTING JUST UNDERNEATH YOUR WAISTCOAT

A sporran is worn at the front of your kilt and should sit centre to your waistcoat. It should be sitting just underneath your waistcoat, but not touching.

YOUR SOCKS AND LACES

The socks should be folded over your flashes, sitting around two fingers below your knee. Shoe laces should be tied up your leg, but not over your calf muscle as this will loosen them as you walk.

The relationship between Scotland and its kilts goes back many centuries, however, the date in which kilts were first invented, is rather unknown. The first documented mention of the féileadh-mór (or great kilt) can be found in books dating back to the 1500’s. As you can imagine, the great kilts' popularity would have been quite prevalent to have been worthy of documentation at that time.
