Now more than ever we find that couples are looking for ways to make their day unique and highlandwear is an ideal way to do that. Although tartan and kilts are often seen as very traditional, there are so many ways you can customise them to add a personal and contemporary touch to your big day. From handfasting ceremonies to hiring any tartan, dive into our ultimate guide to wedding season 2023.
Can I hire any tartan?
Gone are the days of being restricted to a set range of hire tartans. While our Mist range and other hire tartans showcase a great range of colours and styles, there is something extra special about having the freedom to choose any tartan you like. That’s where our Choose Any Tartan Kilt Hire comes in. With more than 4,000 tartans to choose from, you could opt for you or your partner’s clan colours, a tartan that is special to you or simply one that matches your wedding theme. This is also a fantastic option if you want your groom's party to be able to coordinate seamlessly with your tartan choice. A new kilt will be created just for you and you can even choose to purchase it after your event for just £150. Book an in-person appointment at our Glasgow, Prestwick and Edinburgh to arrange your kilt hire. If you can't make it to any of our stores, book a virtual fitting and get the Kings of Kilts experience from the comfort of your own home.

What is handfasting?
Handfasting is becoming increasingly popular as a way for couples to connect with their Scottish heritage, while adding a distinctive element to their ceremony. Handfasting is a Celtic tradition that can be traced back as far as 7000 B.C. and symbolises the joining of two clans. Did you know that the phrase ‘tie the knot’ actually comes from this Scottish custom? The family tartans of the couple are woven into ribbons which are wrapped around their hands during the ceremony. The couple is asked to take a step back and in doing so, the handfastings stretch out and end up knotted together. This can add a touch of theatrics and Scottish flair to your ceremony and may be something your guests haven’t seen before. If you don’t have a clan tartan you could opt for one of our universal Mist tartans and complete the set with a matching ring bearer cushion.
