A Brief History of Clan MacBeth

Clan MacBeth’s motto is ‘Conjunctio Vertuti Fortuna’ meaning ‘Fortune is allied to Bravery’. The clan’s ancestor was MacBeth, King of Scotland from 1040 to 1057, who was made famous by Shakespeare in his well-known play of the same name.

The name comes from the Gaelic phrase ‘MacBeatha mac Fhionnlaigh’, which translates to ‘Macbeth, son of Findlay’.

Over the centuries, Clan MacBeth's historical legacy became entwined with the literary mythos created by Shakespeare, often overshadowing the more nuanced and historically accurate accounts of MacBeth’s reign. Despite this, the clan is still remembered for its connection to one of Scotland’s earliest kings.

The MacBeth tartan is a very vibrant design, combining blue green and red, complemented with yellow and white outlining. A great choice for those who are looking to stand out from the crowd.
