A Brief History of Clan Lindsay

The Lindsay Clan motto is Endure Fort (Endure bravely). The Lindsays were prominent in both Scotland and England. The Scottish branch of the name is thought to have originated with Sir Walter de Lindesey, a Norman knight who accompanied King David I when he returned to Scotland in 1124. He settled in Lothian and his descendants would go on to hold land in Lanarkshire.

Clan Lindsay was involved in every major Scottish war throughout the centuries, whether it be on the battlefield or in government. During the Jacobite uprising, Colin Lindsay, 3rd Earl of Balcarres fought for Charles but John Lindsay, 20th Earl of Crawford, fought for the British and was made Lieutenant-Colonel of the newly formed 43rd Regiment of Foot, which would eventually become the Black Watch.

The Lindsay tartan mainly consists of Red and green and is available in both modern and ancient variants as well as muted. The Lindsay tartan is a vibrant tartan that pairs well with all highlandwear.
