A Brief History of Clan Bruce

The Scottish Clan Bruce, or Clan Brus, is one of the most historically significant clans in Scotland, with origins tracing back to the early 12th century. The Bruce clan motto is "Fuimus" (We Have Been).

The Bruce family is believed to have descended from Norman ancestors, who settled in Scotland during the reign of David I. The name "Bruce" comes from the lands of Brix in Normandy.

The most famous member of the clan is Robert the Bruce, born in 1274. He played a crucial role in the Wars of Scottish Independence against England. In 1306, Robert the Bruce was crowned King of Scots after defeating his rival John Comyn. His most notable victory came in 1314 at the Battle of Bannockburn, where his forces defeated the English army, securing Scotland's independence for a time.

The Bruce dynasty continued to rule Scotland until the death of Robert the Bruce's son, David II, in 1371. The lack of a direct heir led to the crown passing to the House of Stewart. Despite this, the Bruce name remained prominent in Scottish history.

The Bruce tartan features a green and red design, with lines of blue and yellow. Available in Modern, Ancient, and Weathered variants, the Bruce tartan is a great choice for people looking for a traditional option.
