What to Expect at Your Virtual Kilt Fitting

Your appointment will begin with a discussion around your highlandwear requirements. Once our stylist has an idea of what you are looking for, they will then talk you through the different tartans we have to offer. At MacGregor and MacDuff, we have over 4,000 different tartans to choose from. After you've picked your tartan, our stylist will show you some jacket options. We have a wide range of traditional and tweed kilt jackets that will seamlessly match your kilt or tartan trews.

To complete your highlandwear look, our stylist will assist you in choosing your accessories from our extensive collection. They will then talk you through self-measuring.

Your fitting will take no more than an hour and once we have all of your information, your choices and sizes sent off to our manufacturing team so we can get started creating your highlandwear right away. The manufacturing process will take roughly between 8 - 12 weeks depending on what you have ordered. Once everything has passed our strict quality control check, your order will be packaged and given to our international courier. You will start to receive shipping updates and before you know it, you'll be standing out from the crowd in your new highlandwear.

PREPARING FOR YOUR VIRTUAL APPOINTMENT

For the best experience at your virtual appointment, we recommend the following;

  • Use a laptop if possible. Using a laptop will allow you to have your hands free when taking your measurements and will be the easiest way to navigate our website
  • Wear thin clothing like a t-shirt and jeans. When taking your measurements, it’s important you get the most accurate sizes and wearing thin clothing will help
  • Having a tailor's tape measure ready. These tape measures are flexible and will easily wrap around your body
  • Avoid too much background noise. Use a pair of earphones during your appointment if possible, this will give you the best experience as you and your stylist will be able to communicate without raising your voices

At MacGregor and MacDuff, all of our kilts are made-to-measure in Scotland, from 100% worsted wool. Each kilt is specifically tailored to your specifications and is available in a range of over 4,000 tartans. Looking for something more casual? Where Can I Wear a Kilt?

From the 16th to 18th century, the kilt was worn by Scottish highlanders in everyday life. During this period, kilts were made from a single length of material that was formed into pleats, wrapped around the waist, and secured with a belt. This kilt style was known as the feileadh mòr or great kilt and was a full-body garment. In 1746 the Dress Act was passed which outlawed the wearing of kilt and anything tartan for people in the highlands.
