A Brief History of Clan MacLaren
The MacLaren clan motto is "Creag an Tuirc" (The boar's rock). The Clan MacLaren has a long and storied past that dates back a millennium. Its members can trace their lineage to the traditional lands that stretch from the Braes of Balquhidder to Loch Earn, right in the heart of Scotland.
The MacLarens had a reputation for being a warlike clan and frequently found themselves in disputes with neighbouring clans. However, their fortunes changed when a daughter of the MacLaren family married a Stewart Lord of Lorne during the 15th century. This union marked a significant turning point in the MacLarens' history, as it forged a strong alliance with the powerful Stewart clan.
The MacLaren tartan most commonly features a colour palette of green, blue, black, red and yellow. The MacLaren Ancient 1819 variety and MacLaren Muted interestingly feature a flash of fuschia.
