A Brief History of Clan MacFarlane
The Clan MacFarlane motto is “This I’ll Defend”. The name comes from the Gaelic patronymic Mac Pharlain, meaning "son of Parlan". The name is also associated with Partholán from Irish myths and legends.
The MacFarlane clan originated between Loch Long and Loch Lomond in the Highlands of Scotland, where you would find Arrochar today. having the same boundaries as the Parish of Arrochar.
The MacFarlane Clan were infamous for night time cattle raids on their wealthier neighbours land leading to a full moon being known colloquially as “MacFarlane’s Lantern”.
The MacFarlane tartans are available in a wide number of variations including Modern, Ancient, Weathered and Hunting varieties. The tartans feature reds, greens, whites and blues with the exception of the black and white version which is completely monochrome.
