Highlandwear is steeped in history and tradition, however there are endless ways to make it modern. We work closely with many wedding suppliers and have had the pleasure of working with Paul Browett, The Scottish Celebrant. Paul is no stranger to putting a spin on all things tartan and was kind enough to share some of his favourite outfits with us.
Known as The Scottish Celebrant, Paul has been conducting humanist weddings for several years and specialises in quirky, fun-filled ceremonies. Paul shows that highlandwear doesn’t have to be serious. Show off your style, embrace your roots and most importantly, have fun while doing it!
Trendy Tweed Jackets
We love that Paul embraces the tradition of highlandwear in a contemporary way and this tweed combo is one of our favourite looks to date. The brown lapels of the Signature Collection Jacket lend themselves perfectly to being paired with brown ghillie brogues and rustic accessories such as the quirky horn sgian dubh worn here. Paul’s tweed jacket, waistcoat and kilt were all from our ex-hire range which is a great option for finding some unusual tartans and pieces you won’t normally see. Check out the range here.
Lomond Mist Tartan
Paul has sported our exclusive Lomond Mist at many of his wedding and naming ceremonies. Paired with our Oban Grey Tweed Kilt Jacket and Waistcoat, this outfit is a sleek look for special occasions. Paul adds his own unique touches with a wooden kilt pin and pink pocket square to emphasise the fuchsia yarn in the tartan. If you’re tying the knot at one of the stunning wedding venues around Loch Lomond, this Mist would be the ideal choice. Take it for a spin with our hire range.
Tartan Waistcoats
Looking for a more subtle hit of tartan? Paul shows that a tartan waistcoat is an excellent alternative to a full kilt and can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. Choose from more than 4,000 tartans to create your bespoke waistcoat. Paul opted for the soft tones of Cairngorm Brave tartan.
The Finishing Touches
Attention to detail is one of the reasons why Paul’s outfits always look so fantastic. While this Patriot Tay Waverley kilt is a statement in itself, the accessories pull the outfit together. Paul highlights his modern gent style with a classy pocket watch, matching tartan tie and fur dress sporran. With his signature moustache and glasses, this is highlandwear made cool!
