When Should I Start Planning My Kilt Outfit?

We always recommended that you start your outfit planning at least 12 weeks before your event date. This ensures that your preferred tartans and jacket styles will be available. If you are short on time, we will always do our best to accommodate your needs. For example, our hire range is an excellent choice for those last minute invites. Browse our collection online and have your outfit delivered straight to your door or find your nearest kilt shop here to get measured and styled in person.

Should I Hire or Buy a Kilt?

Whether you choose to hire or buy your kilt ultimately comes down to personal preference and your highlandwear needs. Our Kilt Hire range is a cost effective way to add some Scottish style to your wedding, graduation or ceilidh. It is also a great way to try out some different tartans and jacket styles, especially if you haven't worn a kilt outfit before. If you loved taking our hire kilt for a spin, our Buy and Save offer allows you to get back the price of your hire when you buy any outfit. You can save up to £160. Many grooms will decide to purchase their wedding outfit as they will be looking for something extra special and bespoke. It is also more than worthwhile investing in your own kilt outfit if you wear a kilt often, want something made-to-measure, or are looking to pass your kilt to future generations.

How Do I Store My Kilt?

To ensure that your kilt stays in pristine condition, it is important to store and care for it properly. Allow your kilt to air for at least 12 hours after wearing, as this will get rid of any moisture hiding in the fibres. Kilts and tartan trews are made from 100% worsted wool so are naturally very durable, resistant to dirt and shouldn’t need cleaning too often. Using a kilt wardrobe and kilt roll is the best way to protect your highlandwear year-round. Store with some fresh cedar blocks or lavender sachets to reduce the risk of the wool attracting clothes moths.

Travelling with a kilt

What is the Best Way to Travel with a Kilt?

We love to see our tartan travelling and there are a few things to keep in mind to ensure your pleats are still perfect when you arrive at your destination. Again, using a kilt wardrobe and roll is an easy way to protect your highlandwear while on the move. Rolling rather than folding your kilt helps to avoid creases and keeps the pleat uniform.

Handmade Kilt

Can a Kilt Last a Lifetime?

If looked after properly, a kilt can last a lifetime and beyond. Our handmade kilts can even be hemmed, taken in at the waist or fully remade for future generations to enjoy. The finest quality craftsmanship is at the heart of everything we do, so we are confident that our kilts will stand the test of time.
