Tartan for cycling champions

The UCI Cycling World Championships has seen the world’s biggest cycling event ever come to Scotland this month with the main hub of activity being based in Glasgow. We are geared up for the Championships at our flagship Bath Street store in Glasgow with a window display to mark the occasion.

Our window displays at our Bath Street store are always a sight to behold, but this month's display is particularly eye-catching. Tasked with the theme of cycling, we have gone all out to create a striking window display to celebrate the arrival of the UCI Cycling World Championships.

The route for the road races goes right by our shop, and we have been very excited to cheer on the racers as they wizz by us. This got us thinking… what tartans would some of the cyclists we’ve been cheering on for the past few days wear?

Welsh BMX competitor, James Jones may have missed out on the win but he definitely won the hearts of the crowds at Glasgow Green when he gave a young supporter his helmet.

The Welsh Jones tartan features bold greens and blues. If only the sky was as blue as it is on this tartan for the day of the competition! This tartan pairs perfectly with our Racoon Dress Sporran with Cut Out Celtic Cantle and a Celtic Interlace Design Kilt Pin.

Paracyclist Fin Graham wowed spectators at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome as he won the Gold medal for the Men's C3 Individual Pursuit. There are many different variations for the Graham tartan to choose from, the Graham of Menteith Clan tartan is made up of rich blues and greens in their modern and ancient variants. There are also red and weathered variations that move away from the classic colours.

American cyclist, Nick Bruce will be bringing a Bronze medal back home with him after competing in the BMX Freestyle Park event at Glasgow Green. The Bruce tartan is bold and bright with rich reds and greens. Like the Graham tartan, there are a number of variations all featuring eye-catching red as the hero colour. The most unique of the Bruce tartans is the Bruce of Kinnaird Ancient with adds tan and cyan to the mix.
