It was back in 2015 when MacGregor and MacDuff first came up with the idea of taking the kilt shop experience on the road. The plan was simple, take our expertly crafted range of highlandwear to people who don’t live near a kilt shop. After looking at a few different locations, London was chosen as our first destination as it had the highest concentration of Scots outside of Scotland. We received such a positive response from those early fitting services that our London pop-up shop became a permanent fixture on our calendar and since then, we have added Manchester to our UK fittings services and have even added two international destinations, New York and Toronto.
These fitting services, whether in the UK or abroad, have helped countless people find their dream highlandwear outfit and for that reason, we aren’t going to stop. In fact, we are going to do the opposite and add even more destinations for our fitting service over the coming years, but before we do that, we are going to do something a little closer to home.
In celebration of our soon-to-be-released new Mist tartan, we will be taking our fitting service to the Isle of Harris. The island is known around the world for its crystal clear waters, sandy white beaches, dramatic terrain and painting-like skyscapes. It is also home to ancient settlements, standing stones, folklore and of course, the famous Harris Tweed. With so much beauty, culture and heritage, Harris was the perfect inspiration for the design of our new Harris Mist tartan.
Our fitting service on Harris will take place on the 18th of March and will be held at Number 4, Bunavoneader. At the fitting service, we will be offering everything from full kilt outfits, contemporary tartan trews outfits, highlandwear hire and accessories. It’s a great opportunity for the local community to get the big city kilt shop experience without the hassle of leaving the island.
One of our expert stylists will be traveling to Harris for the service so they can walk each customer through everything MacGregor and MacDuff has to offer. The fitting will start with a conversation about their highlandwear needs and what type of events the outfit will be worn to. This allows our stylist to recommend the best highlandwear options specific to our customer's needs. Once this initial conversation is complete and our stylist has everything they need to know, it’s then time to talk about the tartans we have to offer. We have over 4,000 tartans to choose from and the tartan choice will then dictate the colour scheme of the rest of the outfit. Choosing just one out of 4,000 tartans may seem like a monumental task, but don’t worry, our stylist will be on hand to guide everyone through the process. Once a decision has been made on the tartan, matching jackets and accessories will then be shown and discussed before the all important measurements are taken.
Our Harris fitting service will be a unique experience not just for the local residents but also for us here at MacGregor and MacDuff. Our fitting services normally take place in the heart of an urban city and aren’t usually surrounded by breathtaking Scottish scenery. To say we are excited would be an understatement.
