Famous for its impressive architecture, vast art collection and quirky floating heads, it’s hard to think of Glasgow without Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum springing to mind. Home to the works of world renowned artists and creatives from Charles Rennie MacIntosh to Salvador Dalí, we are proud to say that MacGregor and MacDuff now stand alongside these distinguished names.
So how did Scotland's favourite kiltmaker find themselves showcased alongside such celebrated creators? We were approached by the gallery to contribute a full kilt outfit to display as part of the ‘Scottish Identity in Art’ exhibition. This exhibit celebrates Scotland’s culture and history through everything from traditional dress to oil paintings and photography.
You can find our kilt nestled amongst Scottish landscapes, portraits and a brief history of tartan. Our kilt outfit includes a Prince Charlie jacket and matching waistcoat paired with the iconic Modern Glasgow City tartan. This particular kilt outfit highlights the versatility and enduring popularity of highlandwear. Many modern-day grooms and party-goers still opt for this classic as an homage to their roots and heritage.
We were delighted to be invited to take part in the exhibition and honoured that our kilt outfit will be kept in the gallery's archives for many centuries to come. As the most popular free-to-enter attraction in Scotland and most visited museum in the UK outside of London, the gallery welcomes around 1.3 million visitors each year. We are thrilled at the thought that we can now share our love of traditional Scottish dress with so many people from around the world.
If you find yourself strolling through Glasgow’s west end anytime soon, why not take a moment to see our outfit for yourself? Hear a famous Kelvingrove organ recital, take in the artwork of the Glasgow Boys and catch our tartan on display in the most opulent of settings.
