Charlotte and Lee Tie The Knot

Each wedding has its own unique story. A story as unique as the couple tying the knot. Charlotte and Lee shared theirs with us. We’re in awe of their magical day at Brig o’ Doon House Hotel, and with Lee’s first ever kilt, crafted from Highland Granite tartan.

Grooms outfit

When deciding what to wear, Charlotte, a Scottish bride, and Lee, an English groom, felt a kilt outfit was appropriate for their big day. “He was very excited to wear his first kilt and what better an occasion that your own wedding day.” While researching suppliers, the two came across our website. “It was very professional and they had a large range of colour options. They are also very active on Instagram and this was appealing to us.”

“We found they were very quick to get back to us on our initial enquiry and very helpful during the initial communication.” Good communication was vital, especially as the couple were abroad throughout much of the planning process, and many family and friends were spread across the UK. Being able to arrange fitting appointments physically and online allowed all of the groomsmen to have their measurements taken efficiently and effectively. “Always a quick and detailed reply to any emails and also helpful with arranging appointments for family members located in Scotland. They were also great with helping with measurements for the groomsmen who were not able to have a fitting.”

So, what was the inspiration behind the tartan choice? Lee chose Highland Granite to fit the neutral aesthetics of the wedding and because it was also available in our hire range for the rest of the party. “Our wedding colours were very neutral and we wanted something that was more modern and that everyone would look great in.” The groom and his party even accessorised with white sporrans, perfectly complimenting the gold and white theme, and Lee’s plaid helped him stand-out amongst his groomsmen. “As he had never worn a kilt before he was unsure about the plaid but when the assistant asked if he wished to try it on, it really brought the whole outfit together and made him stand out a little bit more.”

Tartan plaid As with any big, joyous moment in life, sharing it with your nearest and dearest is incredibly important. To thank them for their support, “each groomsman was gifted a personalised beer glass and the fathers were each given a personalised bottle of whiskey.” A wedding is hardly complete without a wee dram.

Grooms party wedding outfitsLike many couples, the two had to handle the unpredictability of the pandemic. Although they had to reschedule twice, they didn’t let the delay dampen their spirits. The couple shared that “getting ready in the morning with those butterflies in your stomach and finally seeing each other at the end of the aisle,” was one of the best parts of the day.

Father of the Bride Outfit “Looking around the room at the meal and thinking how lucky we were to have so many amazing friends and family who had all traveled and made the effort for our special day.” Stood with each other and all their loved ones against the backdrop of the picturesque Brig o’ Doon House Hotel fulfilled all their wedding desires. “Our venue was so beautiful, it had Scottish traditions but still a modern touch with the reception area being recently renovated. The garden area was perfect for photos and the staff were absolutely amazing.” After already viewing nine other locations, the couple, “knew straight away this was our venue… when we opened the main doors and saw the main room with the large staircase and beautiful view.”

Kids kilt hire To add to the magic of this wedding, we wanted to know what advice Charlotte and Lee have for future brides and grooms. We were touched by the thoughtful response. “I would say do what makes you both happy, it’s easy to forget what you want when you are trying to ensure everyone else is happy. Don’t stress about the small things because everything falls perfectly into place. Lastly, enjoy every minute and take time together away from everyone at a few points during the day. It really does fly by.”
