Annabelle and David's City Wedding Day

A day spent with family and friends, stopping off around some of Glasgow’s most iconic locations? Sounds like the dream day to us and that’s just what David and Annabelle’s wedding was! The newly-weds were kind enough to share the story of their day with us, as well as some fantastic images. Read all about their day below.

When we first saw Annabelle and David’s wedding photos, we were so taken with the vintage style of the day and loved seeing so many familiar Glasgow locations. We just had to ask the couple what made them choose a city wedding. David and Annabelle explained, “We wanted to spend the day being in familiar spaces and support our local area. Our wedding day felt like a love letter from Glasgow - it rained, the people were lovely and everything felt so genuine.”

There’s nothing like seeing our grooms' outfits come to life following their initial appointments and fittings and David’s outfit was extra special as he opted for our Signature Collection. This option allows you to take full control of your look as you design your own bespoke jacket and waistcoat with the help of our team. David talked us through his jacket design as well as his tartan choice and accessories. He said: “For me I wanted to have my own kilt to wear on our wedding day so that I would have something sentimental to remember it with. The kilt was so much more than an outfit and the fact that I could put my initials inside means that it will now be a treasured item that can be passed on.”

He continued, “I chose Hunting MacGregor.  I’ve rented this tartan before, as well as many others and for me it was my favourite because of the deep red tones. I wore tartan shoes, a tartan bow-tie, a pocket watch, a double breasted waistcoat and a fancier buttonhole. I also designed the outfit to be bespoke with a moleskin lapel and personalised initials.”

The small details like tartan brogues and embossed kilt straps really pulled David’s outfit together and made it so personal to him. Look no further for your groomswear inspiration!

Kilt outfit for grooms

With such a special outfit prepared ahead of his big day, we wondered if David was able to keep his look a secret? We loved the couple's response. "We both knew what tartan would be chosen but beyond that we designed our outfits separately. We got ready together in our flat the morning of our wedding, we were alone and everything was calm. We got ready in separate rooms and had a moment in our kitchen with some champagne before leaving. Whilst we’d seen each other on and off the whole morning, this was the point where we saw each other fully ready for the first time. It was lovely, intimate and a quiet moment we shared before leaving to get married."

Nowadays more than ever, couples look to make their days unique to them so we asked our newly-weds which traditions did they keep and which did they throw away? Annabelle explained, “We barely had any traditions, we didn’t do vows, speeches, handfasting or readings. As a couple we didn’t want to overcomplicate the day and we both knew strongly how the other felt without having to add any frills. For us the special moments were unexpected - off the cuff toasts, un-planned dances, forgetting to cut our cake and fellow Glaswegians wishing us the best for our futures.”

As with all of our couples, we were keen to know what the best part of this fun filled day was. "It’s impossible to choose. The day just seemed to keep building - we had our private moments together before meeting our close family to be married, then we walked to a secluded spot to have some celebratory champagne before getting the subway to the West End and partying with our friends and family. There were special moments throughout the whole day and it genuinely was the happiest and calmest day of our lives. For us both, our favourite thing about the day was being in our city with our people. We both loved the champagne toast with our families and getting to have an unexpected first dance in the Cathouse with our friends at 2AM." With so many standout moments to choose from, we’re not surprised Annabelle and David struggled to pick just one!

Finally, who better to ask for advice for future brides and grooms than these newly-weds. David and Annabelle had this to say, “You don’t need to follow traditions. We had the most incredible day and it didn’t cost a lot of money. When it comes down to it it’s about the marriage and not the wedding, so our advice would be to be your authentic selves and plan a day that’s perfect for the two of you.”
