Dapper Tartan Design

Many of our Tartan Design customers reach out to us as they are marking a special occasion. We take great pride in helping people celebrate life’s milestones, like Michael Sold, who worked with us to create a tartan ahead of the 33rd anniversary of his wedding to his wife Beatrice.

With a growing collection of kilts, Michael was looking for something new ahead of his anniversary that he would be spending in Scotland. He told us: “Up until last year I had three different tartans to wear. After our journey to Scotland I realized that you can have and design your own tartan. I took the chance and inquired with MacGregor and MacDuff. The reason for having my own tartan is also to have something which defines my personality and my affinity to clothing.” We were delighted to help Michael make this special addition to his wardrobe.

He explained: “I like to dress formal or semi-formal at least when at home or going out or going on holiday. When travelling the UK, I always wear tweed suits with a tie and or, when in Scotland, a kilt whenever possible. I just like the different design of a kilt and I think it is very distinctive to wear tartan cloth in Scotland. My love for tartan and Scotland came over the years. I like the beauty of the landscape, its rawness and wonderful little villages and islands. Not to forget that you appreciate a country when you wear the clothes made in the country. For me it is essential to wear only fabrics made in the UK, including the shirts, ties and whenever possible shoes.” It was great to work with somebody who shares our passion for high quality craftsmanship.

Michael sold at stone hengeWith such an impressive wardrobe, it was important to Michael that his own tartan complemented his personal style. He said: “I wanted a tartan that is not too bright but still different and can be worn on all occasions like informal for a day out but also formal with the correct jacket and waistcoat i.e. Prince Charlie.” After an initial conversation with our design consultant, they will create a mood board for you to help you select the colours that will help you choose your final design.

He told us “With the tartan I still have, I can also do upholstery on our dining seats or cushions. It will give our home a "Scottish" look which I like.” From brogues to braces and beyond, there are countless options for what you can have your tartan made into.

He said, “I will be there for quite some time. I would like to wear all of my 4 kilts with different Jackets/Waistcoats during the day and for dinner.” We look forward to seeing how Michael styles his highlandwear collection in Scotland.
