A Brief History of Clan Crawford

The Crawford Clan motto is Tutum Te Robore Reddam (I will make you safe with strength). The Clan's history dates back to the late 12th century and it’s thought that the Clan's origins begin with a Norman knight who came to Scotland in the reign of Malcolm III.

The Clan’s land was in the lowland regions of Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire and Ayrshire. In 1320 the Renfrewshire land was granted to the Crawfords of Auchinames by Robert the Bruce and the Loudon Estates in Ayrshire passed out of Crawford hands to the Campbells through marriage.

The Crawford tartan is unique in comparison to traditional highland tartans. The tartan features light reds in the ancient variations that almost look pink, with darker reds for the modern variants. It also features greens which are lifted with lines of white. The tartan is a great choice for people looking for a highlandwear outfit that will help them stand out from the crowd.
