Glasgow Caledonian University Window Display

Earlier this year, we had the pleasure of collaborating with Glasgow Caledonian University on one of their industry live projects. We worked with Second Year Fashion Design with Business students as they were set the task of creating a range of streetwear incorporating elements of our Mist tartans.

The project all started with a visit to our flagship Bath Street store. The team showed the students around to share with them what MacGregor and MacDuff is all about. The budding designers explored our exclusive Mist tartans and browsed our kilts, jackets and accessories. It was great to meet them and see how enthusiastic they were about the project.

Halfway through the module, a few members of our team visited the university to see how the students were getting on. They were blown away by the students’ creativity and saw everything from pops of tartan in hoodies and cargo pants, to a modern take on the kilt with asymmetrical pleating and oversized proportions.

The designers’ final creations came to life in a fashion showcase in June. Everything from dramatic capes and oversized sleeves to sleek jackets and tailored trousers graced the catwalk. Some with subtle additions of our Mist tartans, others with large pieces of plaid patchwork. This was tartan as we had never seen it before and we were so inspired by the designers’ innovative ideas.

With so many brilliant designs to choose from, it wasn’t easy to pick a winner but our two favourite looks are now on display at our Bath Street store. We loved both Abby Craig’s tartan twist on sportswear with a touch of leather and Emily Malcolmson’s asymmetrical take on the classic jeans and t-shirt. The students’ names are also on display alongside their creations, well done again you two! Make sure to take a wander past the display if you’re in the city centre soon.

It was a privilege to work alongside the university and we are delighted to announce that we will be taking part in another live project this year. This time, students will be challenged to create a contemporary fashion range aimed at bringing tartan to a new audience. We were so impressed by this year’s talented students and we can’t wait to see what the next batch of designers will create.
